Choosing the Right Vortex Optic
Choosing Vortex Binoculars
10x42 is the most popular all-around hunting configuration. It has enough magnification to judge antlers at a distance and lets in enough light for dawn and dusk. Moving up from Diamondback to Viper to Razor mainly improves edge-to-edge clarity, color, and low-light brightness, which matter most in the first and last light of the day.
Choosing a Vortex Rangefinder for Bowhunting
The number in a Vortex rangefinder's name, such as 850, 1400, 2000, or 4000, is its maximum range in yards on reflective targets. Range on a deer is shorter. For bowhunting, the most important feature is HCD (Horizontal Component Distance), which gives an angle-compensated range so your shots from a treestand or steep terrain hit where you aim. Check each model's product page for its specific features.
Spotting Scopes, Thermal & Accessories
- Spotting scopes: Diamondback HD (16-48x65 and 20-60x85) and Viper HD (15-45x65 and 20-60x85) for long-distance glassing and judging antlers before a stalk.
- Thermal: the Veil 400 thermal monocular, for spotting game in the dark or finding a downed animal.
- Crossbow scope: the Crossfire II 2-7x32.
- Tripods and mounts: the High Country II, the Summit Carbon II, and the Pro Car Window Mount for steady glassing.
